A New Era For One Of Toronto’s Most Storied Corners
This historic corner is in the middle of a moment. New buildings are rising, streets are being reworked, and public spaces are coming to life in exciting ways across the neighbourhood. Through it all, the goal stays the same: to build on the stories already written without losing the character that made it special in the first place. Take a look below to see how the BIA is involved in carrying the Yonge + St Clair legacy forward.
Created to improve transparency around growth, this interactive 3D map presents clear information on 11 proposed high-rise developments across the Yonge + St. Clair neighbourhood. Each project includes current status, planning context, renderings, photos, and updates. Maintained in collaboration with local developers, the map helps residents and businesses understand timelines, construction impacts, and the neighbourhood’s ongoing transformation.

Introduced in 2020, the Pole Wraps program adds vibrant colour and consistent branding to street poles using patented anti-stick materials that deter postering and graffiti. Showcasing the BIA’s four brand colours (yellow, orange, purple, and teal) the wraps enhance eye-level visibility and neighbourhood identity. Ongoing maintenance includes regular cleaning and replacement, with future plans aligning colours to cardinal directions approaching the Yonge + St. Clair intersection.

Introduced in 2019, the Banner Program brings consistent colours to the streetscape using the BIA’s four brand colours (yellow, orange, purple, and teal) paired with pole wraps. The banner design is inspired by the iconic Phlegm mural reinforcing neighbourhood identity. Fixed top hardware and flexible bottom attachments allow banners to move safely in the wind, increasing durability. Ongoing maintenance ensures damaged banners are repaired or replaced quickly.

Launched in 2019, the Plantings & Floral Displays program delivers spring, summer, and winter installations across the BIA. Maintenance covers 31 raised planters, two feature-bench planters, and two in-ground tree pits, serviced three times weekly. Floral selections reflect the BIA’s brand colours (yellow, orange, purple, and teal) paired with dark mulch for visual contrast. Monthly weeding supports neighbourhood cleanliness, with new planters planned for the Wally Crouter Walkway in 2026.

The Street Cleaning program provides ongoing maintenance across the BIA through daily inspections, litter removal, graffiti and poster cleanup, and debris collection. A dedicated team services the area four times per week in all weather conditions. Cleanliness efforts are tracked through a reporting application to monitor activity and effectiveness, ensuring a consistently safe, inviting pedestrian environment throughout the neighbourhood. Completed in 2019 by JRS Landscape Architecture and Gensler and approved by City Council, the Streetscape Master Plan provides the guiding framework for public-realm improvements within the then newly established BIA (formed in 2018). Covering the 22-hectare district from Woodlawn to Heath and Avenue to Avoca, the plan establishes a unified aesthetic vision, accessibility priorities, and strategies for programming, seating, planting, public art, and streetscape upgrades. Developed through extensive community engagement and collaboration with City staff and stakeholders, it reflects both physical conditions and neighbourhood identity. Implementation is phased, aligned with redevelopment projects, and supported through City cost-sharing programs. The Plan offers clear standards and direction to streamline coordination among the BIA, property owners, designers, and municipal partners, ensuring consistent, strategic investment in a dynamic, welcoming public realm.

The Streetscape Committee plays a hands-on role in shaping the public realm at Yonge + St. Clair. Members contribute to initiatives that enhance beautification, maintenance, safety, cleanliness, and neighbourhood character, while providing informed feedback on streetscape projects and priorities.
We invite local business owners and employees to join the Streetscape Committee and take an active role in shaping Yonge + St. Clair. This is an opportunity to apply your expertise locally, expand your professional network, and contribute to city-building work beyond your day-to-day role.
